About the Museum
The Hamsfork Museum shares the history, traditions, and stories of Kemmerer and Diamondville. Exhibits include fossils from nearly fifty-two-million-years ago including a sixteen-foot crocodile. Discover the mining shaft where you can see the blackened faces of the miners, hear the striking of their tools and imagine their exhausted sighs at the conclusion of a hard day’s work. Other exhibits include a moonshining still, an Italian wine press, stagecoach and mountain man displays. The two-headed calf, two-bodied lamb and the exhibit of the man’s clothing who was struck by lightning are fascinating. A display honoring James Cash Penney, founder of J.C. Penney’s and other important figures can also be found. The Hamsfork Museum focuses on the local Kemmerer/Diamondville history including: the founders, ranching and agricultural history and early Kemmerer businesses, fossil industry, and oil, gas, nuclear and railroad industries.
